Red Dead Redemption remaster hopes dented by PS4 and Switch announcement

It seems a remaster isn't on the cards yet, as Rockstar has just announced that Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will come to PS4 and Switch soon.

Those of us hoping for a Red Dead Redemption remaster will have to keep on hoping, it seems... After Red Dead Redemption remaster hopes were reignited following a new rating on The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea's website, those same hopes have now been slightly bludgeoned as Rockstar has made a Red Dead Redemption announcement, just not the one we want: Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare are coming to the Nintendo Switch and PS4 "for the very first time in a single package."

Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption announcement quashes hopes that we'll see a remaster soon

"Experience the epic Western adventure Red Dead Redemption and its groundbreaking zombie-horror companion, Undead Nightmare, as both games come to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 for the very first time in a single package," Rockstar says. "In a new conversion by Double Eleven Studios, the Switch and PS4 versions bring the two classic experiences together again for both new players and original fans to enjoy across modern consoles, including backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 5."

Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare together will cost $49.99 on PS4 and Switch, with a release date of August 17 — physical releases arrive on October 13.

Red Dead Redemption, which launched for Xbox 360 in 2010, is already playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via backwards compatibility, but this news is a bit of a blow for those of us hoping Rockstar had a Red Dead Redemption remaster announcement planned instead. Nevertheless, we'll keep an eye out...
