Popular Xbox games — August 6, 2023

Our latest Gameplay Chart of popular Xbox games sees Halo Infinite back in the top 15 while Exoprimal falls and older titles re-join the top 40.

Modern Warfare 2 continues to hold the top spot on this week's Gameplay Chart of popular Xbox games, with Fortnite clinging grimly on in second and Minecraft heading into third, knocking GTA V down to fourth, and FIFA 23 lands in fifth. Diablo IV continues to fall; it's only dropped one space this week to ninth, but it's almost fallen out of the top ten. It's better news for Halo Infinite, which has climbed up three spaces to 14th, and Halo MCC, which has leapt up seven places to 15th after being included in the latest Xbox Game Pass Weekly Quests. A number of Xbox 360 Call of Duty games saw a huge spike in players after a server fix, but it seems this spike is calming down now, with Black Ops 2 falling four places to 17th. Just below is Exoprimal, which also continues to fall this week, dropping four spots to 19th — perhaps as players start to move onto other Xbox Game Pass titles. Exoprimal is due a number of updates, however, so it's possible we'll see the game climb back up the chart in the future.

Dead by Daylight, meanwhile, has risen by five spots to 20th — Behaviour Interactive says that Dead by Daylight: Alien is "coming soon", so it's likely we'll see this game get a boost up the chart too. The next big change is Tunic re-joining the top 40 at 29th after it too was included in those latest Xbox Game Pass Weekly Quests. Further down, Modern Warfare 2 (2009) has taken a serious tumble, dropping 13 places to 34th while Black Ops likewise falls, sliding down six places to 36th. Then we have this week's sole new appearance with WWE 2K23 at 38th, presumably because of its inclusion with the last Free Play Days games. Wrapping up the top 40, we have two reappearances with Gang Beasts at 39th and Ark: Survival Evolved at 40th.

Looking ahead, we have big launches like Stray and Immortals of Aveum, as well as major Xbox Game Pass additions like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. What do you expect to see in the top ten next?
