I'll definitely give it a shot, but I tried both Skyrim and Fallout 4, and got bored with each after a couple hours and never returned.

I'm glad people get so much joy out of them, and I really hope Starfield manages to sweep me up into a huge, immersive world of role playing, but I'm definitely not hyping up my expectations.
Yeah I've really tried to like Skyrim, but I just find its combat so poor, city design so confusing, and story so uninteresting, that I keep putting off going back to it. I did the console complete on PC, and my partner's son did mine on SE, and I have done plenty of running around and questing, but yeah just can't come to actually like it.

I've struggled similarly with The Witcher 3 and The Outer Worlds, but I just get so turned off by having to make dialogue choices, and listening to very slow exposition. By comparison I've had a great time in Elite Dangerous and No Man's Sky, and the lesser known Escape Velocity games of the '90s and early 2000s remain some of my favourite games ever, so hopefully the space setting of Starfield offsets the dialogue and storytelling enough lol. Definitely looking forward to finding out, but it is going to be a very busy September both in gaming and IRL!
Did you play Morrowind or Oblivion before Skyrim? Because if you think the combat in Skyrim is bad...lol.

Combat has never been Bethesda's strongest suit. But I feel of the three Skyrim has the "best" combat.
lol no I've played a little Oblivion since, and just found it "hard". I've seen bits of Morrowind and have marvelled at how some rate it the highest of the series.

Basically ~10 years of WoW made it hard for anything RPG-like to compare as far as combat goes.
Morrowind is an amazing game, but you also need to remember when it came out. Parts of it, like its combat have definitely aged. But its world and other aspects are still top notch.

Would play this on launch but I cannot afford an XSX

Say whatever you want, but £475 is way too much for a console, most of the games I own are physical releases too (mainly 360 era)

When you consider inflation, the Xbox Series X is almost exactly the same price that the Xbox 360 launched at.

(360 launched at £279, and inflation today would make that £470), so it isn't really that bad. It's average price for a console.

Of course, that doesn't really help if you can't afford it, but Microsoft haven't just randomly pulled this price out of nowhere.

That being said, there are now rumours swirling that there WILL be a mid-gen refresh on just the Series X, and it'll come next year. So, for now, you can play Starfield on Cloud and pick up a bargain basement X next year, I guess?

I thought they changed the achievement policy so you couldn't use console commands to unlock achievements?

It still makes my eyes roll into my head when people justify unlocking achievements with console commands in the same league as stacking achievements by playing the game twice in different regions.

Are you kidding me? There are new console commands found every other week. Nobody cares about earning achievements anymore. facepalm

They only disallowed achievement unlocking mods, CCs are still free gain. I don't care too much, other than how it affects achievement guides sometimes. I wrote so many guides for Starbound, only to see them all get mostly ignored for the guides just telling people to cheat for example, lmao. Sometimes you will only find guides telling people how to cheat, and none for us who want to play. Oh well.

Long time since I've been genuinely excited for a game to drop, also first time in along time I actually play the game instead of sticking it on the to do later pile.

That's what I experienced now I am playing through Fallout 4 on PC.

Played through it on Xbox One (just a couple of achievements left), and now I have forgotten how to get some stuff, so I am checking out the achievement solutions on PC. They rarely give the actual solution, it is just 'oh, use this code', so I have to go back over to the Xbox One walkthrough instead.

Guess one day I will try and write solutions for Fallout 4 / Skyrim on PC, but I doubt many people would care.

I do wish that the 'estimated completion' was not for using the codes, though. It should be for a full playthrough of the game.

Somebody earlier on said using console commands is exactly the same as playing on Hard mode and getting the Easy and Medium difficulty achievements at the same time. I really, really don't see how. One involves playing the game. The other doesn't.

One thing I saw in the showcase was that planets had a survey percentage value, presumably based on the amount of scanned flora and fauna. Sincerely hope there isn't some achievement bound to that x 1000 planets.

I'm expecting Starfield to have a little "live service" injected into it.
And if it does I'm not touching it. Tired of it all.
Get used to live service because all the AAA companies think “it’s the future of gaming” and it’s all we are going to see soon.

Forgot about this. laugh All my hype focus has been on "Sea of Stars" instead.
Well, I for one is waiting for the "Starfield ♡ Sea of Thieves" mashup for co-op multiplayer action.

Maybe at one point, but I think this year has really shown how gamers are turning against GAAS.
